Ana Terry has been exhibiting and working in the visual communications industry since 1990 as both an art's educator, graphic designer, and artist. Her practice includes individual projects, site specific projects, curatorial projects, collaborations, and writing and an ongoing in involvement and support in establishing art project spaces and forums for dialogue. She primarily works with found materials to explore the materiality's of objects, locations and experiences through a variety of media, sculptural forms and installation works. Often her projects challenge conventions and suggest alternatives through playful and layered manipulation of the materials and spaces where she exhibits. Since 2000 she has lectured in the fine arts and graphic design degree programs at the University of Otago and the Otago Polytechnic School of Art. She has just returned to New Zealand from a 2 year voluntary assignment working with an NGO based in Vanuatu. Her role there was as visual communications advisor with the community theatre Wan Smolbag. In the last 2 years she and collaborator Don Hunter have undertaken two successful residencies - the William Hodges Fellowship in Southland in 2008 and the inaugural Platform China Artist Residency based in Beijing in 2010. She is currently based in Whanganui continuing her arts practice, running her graphic design business and co-managing Art Crew Ltd - a logistics company providing technical and creative support for artists, events and galleries.
